UPDATE: 7:42 p.m.: June 2022’s election included two overrides and six contested local races. That day — which was punctuated by some delays due to too few ballots having been ordered — voter turnout was strong, with 5857 ultimately casting a ballot.

Today, in spite of at-times drizzly and gloomy weather, turnout has been very strong, with polls still open for another half-hour. Marblehead Beacon has learned that as of 6:00 p.m., approximately 5400 Marbleheaders had already cast ballots, making it possible that final counts will exceed those of last year.

While we will not have final numbers until after 8:00 p.m. tonight, and official ballot counts can take more than a week to be certified, short of an extremely close vote in any race(s), the unofficial tally is generally reliable.

Stay tuned for additional updates throughout the evening.
