Auditions for MLTs At The Door at Boston Theater Marathon XXV 10-Minute Play

Marblehead Little Theatre Announces Equity and Non-Equity Auditions for At the Door for Boston Theater Marathon XXV

Marblehead Little Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for At the Door, a 10-minute play entry to the Boston Theater Marathon (BTM). Auditions are open to Equity and non-Equity actors, as BTM has secured permission to work with AEA actors. Auditions are by appointment on March 16, and walk-ins will be seen as time allows. To schedule an audition, visit https://www.theaterforms.com/mlt/AttheDoor/auditionform/. Auditions will be held at Marblehead Little Theatre, 12 School Street, Marblehead MA.

Written by Hannah Baker and directed by Christina Easthope, At the Door focuses on a mother and a Child Welfare social worker as they discuss the mother’s son, who was recently placed in foster care. As the two women argue and the power dynamic between them plays out, disturbing details are revealed about the circumstances of the removal.

The roles are THE MOTHER: a woman who appears young (mid-20s), and THE SOCIAL WORKER: a woman who appears young but older than THE MOTHER. Both roles are open to any race/ethnicity.

Please come to the audition prepared to cold read from the script with other actors. Bring a recent photo and relevant arts resume or description of acting experience, if you have not already added these to the audition form online prior to the audition.

The rehearsal schedule will be determined once the show is cast. The rehearsals will occur during week nights or daytime, no weekends at MLT or another Marblhead location. The schedule will be determined by the creative team and cast. Tech rehearsal is at Boston Playwrights Theatre and is yet to be established, but will take place sometime between May 2-May 6. The performance will be part of the BTM on Sunday, May 7; the performance slot is TBD but will take place between 12-10 pm. Attendance of the whole day is welcome but not required! You may fulfill your actorly duties and leave at your leisure. Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Kate Snodgrass Stage, 949 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA 02215.

About the Boston Theatre Marathon

Boston Playwrights’ Theatre produces the annual Boston Theater Marathon (BTM), an award-winning, all-day marathon of new 10-minute plays. The plays are chosen from approximately 400 entries from New England playwrights, and the 50 selected plays are produced by 50 New England theatre companies which donate their time (and talent!) to this event.

Inspired by the iconic Boston Marathon, the BTM is a theater endurance event designed to make connections between local playwrights and local theatres—seeding new collaborations and strengthening existing ones, and encouraging more companies to consider producing new plays by local writers!—and to introduce audiences to the breadth and depth of the Boston playwriting and theatre scene. The yearly event provides a showcase—and a connecting point—for the entire theatre community.

Generously supported over the years by the Boston University Center for the Humanities and by individual donations, the BTM gifts its net proceeds to the Theatre Community Benevolent Fund, an organization that helps area theatre artists and companies in crisis
