Great Gatsby

MLT is poised to Dazzle with World Premiere of full-length ‘Gatsby’ Musical.

The great American novel meets the great American art form, the Musical, in June at the venerable Marblehead Little Theatre. This all-new American musical tells F. Scott Fitzgerald’s searing, timeless story as it roars through the heady glamor and treacherous excess of 1922 in the coastal reaches—The Eggs—of Long Island. The jazz is hot, the champagne is cold, hemlines are rising, and societal boundaries are falling.  THE GREAT GATSBY’s themes of privilege and the illusion of class mobility could not be timelier.

Fred Anthony Marco (book & lyrics) and Frank Schiro (music) of the Tony® Award-winning BMI Musical Theater Writing Workshop are launching the first fully staged version of THE GREAT GATSBY: An American Musical from June 23 through July 2, 2023, with an eye toward a regional transfer.

Marco is a NAMT finalist and was short-listed for The American Harmony Prize for his NYC production of “The Family Fiorelli.”  Schiro was twice nominated for the Jefferson Award in Chicago and his original musical “Pryor Rendering” was voted Musical of the Decade in 2020 by Broadway World Regional Awards. The musical will be helmed by acclaimed Boston stage director Alexandra Dietrich, recently AD at The Huntington Theater.

“This an absolutely amazing American musical and deserves to be produced and seen by audiences.” -Doug Hill, past president of Marblehead Little Theatre.

MLT, founded in 1956, has been voted one of the 50 best small-stage theaters in America. In the 1940s and early 1950s, Marblehead was a popular summer stock theater destination. Richard Rogers personally supervised the Marblehead Playhouse production of “On Your Toes” in 1953.

MLT is located at 2 School Street, Marblehead, MA. 01945 and is 17 miles, a quick 40-minute jaunt from Boston.
